Texans are unlikely to retain Will Fuller

Wideans texans Will Fuller will miss Week 1 of the 2021 regular season thanks to the suspension of six PED games it received in November, but it is still one of the most intriguing recipients defined for an unrestricted free agency in March. This is especially true because players like Kenny Golladay and Chris Godwin are increasingly likely to stay with their current clubs, which puts Fuller at the top of the wish list of teams in need of recipients.

And as Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle writes, it looks like Fuller will actually hit the open market. Fuller and QB Deshaun Watson enjoy a close friendship and, considering Watson’s relationship with the team at the moment, Wilson says that Fuller will not be back in Houston unless he is hit with the franchise brand (a reconciliation between Texans and Watson can change that, but the situation seems unfeasible) However, several league sources say they do not expect Houston to use the tag on Fuller, although the club would like to have him back.

After all, Texans are only $ 3.9 million below the limit at the moment, and while restructuring and releasing players like RB David Johnson it will give them some additional space, it may not be enough to load Fuller into a ~ $ 16 million franchise brand. Instead, the team can continue to work with Brandin Cooks – which flourished during Fuller’s suspension – along with Randall Cobb and younger players Keke Coutee and Chad Hansen.

Spotrac indicates that Fuller is in line with a $ 67.8 million four-year contract, which seems right. The $ 16.9 million average would put Fuller in the top 10 of the WR market, and although he has struggled with injuries throughout his professional career, he was finally on track to play a full season of 16 games for the first time before be suspended (for what it’s worth, he said he violated the league’s PED policy just because he took drugs that the prescribing doctor believed was approved by the NFL).

His speed and explosiveness would be an advantage for any receiving body, so while injury history is a concern, he shouldn’t be lacking in suitors. Last season, he was on pace for almost 1,300 receiving yards and double-digit TDs. His average of 16.6 yards per reception was a career high and is a reflection of his great playing ability.
