Tesla will dramatically expand its Full Self-Driving beta

Now may be your chance to join Tesla’s Full Self-Driving beta. Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla’s new 8.2 software is “doubling” the size of the beta testing program and 8.3 will “likely” expand the program size tenfold. You’ll want to get in touch if you’re interested, said Musk.

The head of the company warned that it is still necessary to “be careful” with these new betas, but that the code is “maturing”.

Tesla launched the Full Self-Driving beta for the first time in October last year and has made frequent improvements since then. He is already able to make some long trips without significant intervention. With that said, this is not a fully autonomous system – you still need your hands on the wheel, and your main goal is to reduce the amount of input required compared to the standard autopilot.

The expansion shows that Tesla is becoming more confident about Full Self-Driving skills and can accelerate its development as testers reveal more real-world bugs. The company is certainly motivated to hurry. Drivers are still waiting for a planned FSD subscription service that was due to be delivered in early 2021 (we would not count on that at this stage). This offer cannot be implemented realistically until the feature is considered ready, and further testing can accelerate this release.
