Tesla updates the interior design of the electric SUV model Y

Tesla updated the interior design of the Model Y electric SUV, starting with the new one produced in China, to match the changes introduced in the 2021 Model 3.

With the new 2021 version of the Model 3, Tesla introduced several new design changes, especially in the vehicle’s interior design.

The Model 3 and Model Y share a very similar interior design, but the changes from the 2021 model year created some differences.

The main one is the introduction of a new center console with an integrated cordless phone charger and an updated design.

New design of Tesla Model Y

Now, with the launch of the Model Y made at Gigafactory Shanghai in China, Tesla has updated the interior design of the electric SUV to match the changes introduced in the Model 3 of 2021, such as the new interior console:

Interestingly, Tesla also appears to have made some changes to the interior of Model Y that are not from the 2021 Model 3 update.

A change is visible from the new image in the online configurator; a new wooden panel on the door:

Although these changes are currently seen only in the Chinese Y model configurator, they are expected to arrive at the Y model produced in the USA, as was the case with the first changes introduced in the model 3 vehicles made in China.

Tesla Model Y in China

As we reported earlier, Tesla is about to start delivering Model Y to China after several production facilities have been located at Shanghai’s Gigafactory.

Today, Tesla China confirmed the start of production of the Model Y in China with deliveries to customers starting this month.

The automaker confirmed that the Y model starts at 339,900 yuan ($ 52,000) for the long-range dual engine version and the performance version of the Y model starts at 369,900 yuan ($ 56,600).

The price is competitive with small electric SUVs from competitors in China, like Nio and Xpeng.
