How fast can Tesla grow? That is a question that is worth a few hundred billion dollars or more. It seems that the answer comes down mainly to the battery supply. Tesla is currently building giant automotive factories in Germany and Texas, while also expanding its Chinese plant. Its battery supply is also increasing, but it looks like it will never be able to meet vehicle demand and production capacity.
In Tesla’s last quarterly conference call, CEO Elon Musk indicated that they could be producing the Tesla Semi – a fully electric semi-truck unveiled a few years ago – if they had enough batteries for it. Electric vehicle fans, especially climate and air quality hawks, have been looking forward to the production of this truck ever since, since it could reduce emissions so dramatically and could apparently outperform the competition between fossil fuel trucks. in cost and performance straight from the box. But we are waiting and waiting while Tesla increases the capacity of the Model 3 and Model Y to become profitable and remain profitable (while also decarbonizing a large number of miles from light vehicles).
In the conference call, Tesla indicated that production of Semi would begin later this year. Now, the word on the street is that it means mid-2021, not late 2021.
Tesla’s semi production expectations
EXCLUSIVE: For a few weeks I was in contact with a source from a United States Tesla supplier. They provide certain parts for the S, X, 3 and Y, but I am here to reveal some information about the Tesla Semi. As always, take this kind of thing with caution. Things / schedules can change.

It is not known whether final assembly will take place in Nevada and Texas or whether it will only move to Giga Texas when the plant is ready.

It makes a little more sense. Annual sales of Class 8 trucks in the United States are approximately 200-250 thousand units.
Obviously, not all production would be for the American market, but it is still a significant market share that they aim for. But I wait at least 2 years from the start of production to achieve this.

Personally, the Semi is the Tesla model that I found most interesting since the Model 3. There is a lot of potential to reduce pollution, the vehicle is so smooth and smooth, the opportunities for autonomous vehicles for trucks are great and dozens of large companies – Semis commissioned , showing strong demand (or at least interest) for the new vehicle.
An estimated sales of 50,000 Semi trucks per year seems reasonable. For a while. Since Tesla Semi trucks can drive alone, the value of the trucks looks like it would be attractive enough to generate much more annual sales.
Tesla Giga Berlin comes along
Another Tesla tweet caught my eye as another indication that Tesla’s production ramps are moving very well. Alex Voigt noted on the German Tesla website that the website now states under Model Y: “Production is expected to start in mid-2021.”

Production of Model Y (and / or Model 3) in Germany would quickly make the company a manufacturer on three continents, with mass market production of Model Y (and probably Model 3) on each continent. Tesla already produces Model 3 and Model Y in the US and China. Producing Model 3 and Model Y in Germany also means that the cost may fall, as certain fees (such as import duties) will no longer affect the model.
