Tesla Model Y compared to Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Daily Motor guys took a Ford Mustang Mach-E and put together a video review, comparing it to their own Tesla Model Y.

These two electric vehicles are direct and direct competitors and will undoubtedly be purchased by many consumers looking for a fully electric crossover. Model Y is their personal vehicle and they admit that their familiarity may influence their initial opinions.

However, they also point out that they come from a diehard Ford family and really want the Mustang Mach-E to be a big EV and to be very successful.

Model Y vs Mach-E

The guys point out that the Tesla is much more efficient and also looks more planted on the road. Regenerative take-off braking is also stronger on the Model Y, but the Mach-E has a combined braking system to add regeneration when the friction brake pedal is depressed and the Model Y has no combined brakes, just take-off regenerating.

They also point out that they believe that the central screen layout of the Model Y is more easily navigable. However, they have Model Y and have spent little time on Mach-E, so it is possible that they are just more familiar with Model Y and the user interface looks easier to navigate.

The available cargo space is also an area where Tesla takes advantage. The Model Y has more cargo space, 68 cubic feet compared to the Mach-E’s 60 cubic feet. The Model Y also has wider tires than the Mach-E, which should provide better grip (255s for the Model Y compared to the Mach-E 225s).

In fact, Charlie preferred the driving dynamics of Mach-E over Model Y and Nathan preferred Model Y. However, when it came to the overall package, the two guys said they would choose Model Y, but left the door open to change their opinion when they have a Mach-E for a longer period for a more complete review.
