Tesla doubling fully autonomous testers (FSD) beta now, 10-fold increase soon

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the size of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta program is now doubling with the new software update 8.2. The next step, update 8.3, is expected to bring an even greater increase by an order of magnitude. The expansion was suggested in a previous batch of tweets.

Elon Musk said to “be careful” with the use of the FSD feature, since it is not an autonomous system, but only a beta, which requires 100% attention. On the other hand, in his opinion, the system is “getting mature” therefore, the number of necessary human interventions should decrease, we believe.

“If you want the Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta to be downloaded to your car, let us know. Doubling the size of the beta program now to 8.2 and probably 10X to 8.3. Still be careful, but it’s maturing.

Tesla began launching the beta on October 22, 2020 (initially only for a small group of testers in the U.S.).

If the FSD program is at around 1,000 or more, after doubling, it should be around 2,000 and then 10,000-20,000 in the next step. That’s just a small part of about 1.4 million Tesla electric cars worldwide.

The interest in participating in the beta test is high, according to Elon Musk, and to manage it, the company will soon (in about 10 days) add a special “Download Beta” button in the Services section of the car display.

“Due to the high levels of demand for FSD Beta, adding the” Download Beta “button to the service section of the car display in about 10 days”

Another thing is the geographical implantation. As of now, it cannot be made available everywhere, immediately due to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Elon Musk explains that the word “Beta” is fundamental and that the launch follows the company’s internal tests:

“Availability varies by region due to delays in regulatory approval and / or development and internal testing by Tesla.

Note: the word “Beta” is used to reduce complacency in use and define expectations accordingly. All software is first tested internally by Tesla’s simulation and quality control teams. “

We don’t know when the Tesla FSD can be completed and approved, but with the broader beta tests, at least we should get more feedback and videos to see the current state of progress.
