Ten players that Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins fell in love with in the 2021 Senior Bowl

The 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl ended on Saturday afternoon, and when the clock showed a lot of zeros, Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins coaching staff were victorious.

Which in 2021 could only mean one thing.

The national team won a brave dispute by 27-24 – but for coach Matt Rhule de Flores and Carolina Panthers – the real victory was a close-up view of some of this year’s best prospects.

Flores talked about how valuable it was to be able to coach the Senior Bowl this season.

“It was great. We had a great week with these young players. They really worked hard. Many of them made great impressions, not only in our team, but there were also teams from all over the league. But we spent most of the time with them. We we saw them at the meetings, we saw them take the things from the meetings for follow-up to the practice. I thought everyone got along and then came and competed today, so it was a good week.

He added.

“Yes, there were some guys that we felt could help our team. We are not going to dive into the names of who these guys are, but there were a lot of talented players. I thought Jim Nagy and the senior Bowl team did a great job in bringing talented players here for us to coach and a lot of them, they did well. ”

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you who the dolphins are officially I liked this week on Mobile, but I can try to speculate based on the type of players Miami is looking for and who I believe stood out this week.

Here are ten players that Brian Flores and his team PROBABLY fell in love with in the Senior Bowl.

(Note: you can probably defend each player, but these are some of the highlights of this weekend – and some of my favorites. If a player has one * next to their name, it means Flores trained them in the Senior Bowl. ENJOY)

* Creed Humphrey, offensive striker, Oklahoma *

This list will not have ten players that you have never heard of. That would be silly. No, these are the best senior bowl players who I believe may be the most beneficial for the 2021 Miami Dolphins – and more.

Humphrey was a fan favorite in the last draft season, when many thought the Dolphins would recruit the Oklahoma 6’5 and 312 pound bully. He may have decided to stay another season, but that will not stop him from hearing his name being called on the first day.

Flores and his team took a close look at Humphrey on Mobile, which means the Dolphins should have an understanding of how valuable a guy like Humphrey would be alongside the rest of the young Miami offensive line.

Ted Karras is cool, but he is not – and never will be – Creed Humphrey.

* Demetric Felton, Running Back / Wide Receiver, UCLA *

Listed as running back at UCLA, Felton’s running route and his fast feet stood out immediately during the three days of practice. It also didn’t hurt that he proved he could create separation easily – something Dolphins desperately need.

In 2020, Felton accumulated 827 total scrimmage yards and 8 touchdowns.

He did everything and the end result is quite simple:

Felton is a star, and the Miami Dolphins desperately need stars.

* Rashad Weaver, Defensive Lineman, Pittsburgh *

I thought Patrick Jones would be the defensive striker he was talking about on Monday morning – but he didn’t have the week of practice that many expected.

(Note: He played much better on match day and should still be a target for the Dolphins.)

Jones’ teammate Rashad Weaver played above expectations this week.

He was strong against the race, exhibited a variety of pass rush movements and defined the limit as an experienced veterinarian.

Weaver also fits the mold of a typical Brian-Flores defensive side, making him the perfect target for the Dolphins on day two.

Cam sample, defensive striker, Tulane

Sample was first brought to my attention by NFL draftnik Phillip Dillingham on Twitter. He told me to keep an eye on Sample for the week in Mobile, Alabama. I can safely say that the whole football world will remember his name after this week’s performance.

Cam Sample seemed dominant one representative after another, and he did it in several ways. No matter where he lined up or against whom he lined up, he dominated one offensive line perspective after another.

And I think he showed Brian Flores and his team that he is a smart, strong and competitive player, exactly as Flores and his team are looking for.

* Michael Carter, Running Back, North Carolina *

Michael Carter looked explosive all week on Mobile, and his speed and ability to do a little bit of everything definitely caught the eye of Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores. Carter ran for 60 yards in Saturday’s all-star game, a performance that stood out among the rest of the draft contenders.

“First, he is a great boy. He’s a hardworking boy. He’s smart, tough and productive today and very productive all week. He played well. This is a guy who had a good career for UNC and he is a good back. “

Carter has all the tools to be an excellent NFL running back. He is fast, decisive and can make moves in the passing game. But if it were up to me, I would be much more interested in your North Carolina teammate, JaVonte Williams.

* Quinn Meinerz, offensive striker, Wisconsin-Whitewater *

So far, we’ve all heard the story of how Quinn Meinerz broke his hand and tried to convince coach Flores to let him play in Saturday’s game. Flores decided it was in Meinerz’s interest not to play, which may have been the only battle he has lost all week.

(He dressed and was ready to play.)

In practice, Meinerz dominated some of the draft’s top contenders, including Patrick Jones of Pittsburgh.

His draft stock is on the rise and, like Humphrey, would also be an upgrade (IMO) compared to Karras in the Dolphins’ offensive line. He also fits the type of player Brian Flores is looking for.

Smart, tough, competitive.

The fit makes a lot of sense.

Amari Rodgers, Wide Receiver, Clemson

Like Felton, Rodgers showed fast feet, sharp runs and steady hands this week, which are many of the attributes that the Miami reception corps severely lacked in 2020. Throughout the week, defensive players struggled to get their hands on Clemson’s fast WR , which stacked one successful rep after another.

Last season, Rodgers caught 77 balls for 1,020 yards and 7 touchdowns with the Tigers.

Don’t sleep on Amari Rodgers.

* Ian Book, Quarterback, Notre Dame *

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but unless the Dolphins can convince Ryan Fitzpatrick to stick around and mentor Your Tagovailoa, they will need to find a reserve defender this off-season.

Fitzpatrick made it very clear that he wanted to start, and I’m sure many teams will take the opportunity to bring in the gray-haired veteran.

Although I am not a big fan of Book, it is clear that he caught the eye of Brian Flores and shares some of the qualities he looks for in a young defender. Best of all, he wears a visor, which, as you know, is the recipe for the success of any young QB.

Ian Book as a reserve for Your Tagovailoa?

Unlikely.

Dolphins will be much better off bringing a proven veteran than relying on Book. But when it comes to giving a potential guy a final flight, I would like this hiring much more than I ever liked Brandon Doughty.

** DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris, friends of Tua, Alabama **

You know I couldn’t write this article without talking about your friends. If Dolphins decide to keep their capital silent, Najee Harris (RB1) and DeVonta Smith (WR1) may well be the targets. But this is not necessarily because of Tagovailoa. No. It has a lot more to do with the two players being at the top of their respected positions.

And while the two players did not participate in Saturday’s all-star game, they made their presence known throughout the week at the Senior Bowl – which you can imagine including Coach Flo and his coaching staff.

Others: Dillon Radunz, Hamsah Nasirildeen, Kadarius Toney, Cade Johnson, KJ Britt, Ifeatu Melifonwu and many more!
