Telltale’s excellent Tales from the Borderlands finally return to stores next week • Eurogamer.net

It was removed from the list in 2019 after the end of the studio.

Telltale Games’ wonderful Tales from the Borderlands, a delusionally stupid narrative adventure inspired by Gearbox’s popular first-person shooter series, will finally return to digital stores next Wednesday, February 17, following its closure in mid-February. 2019.

Tales from the Borderlands was originally launched in 2014 and, at least for my money, it is easily the best thing that Telltale has ever done. It softens the more abrasive edges of the Borderlands series to offer a genuinely funny and surprisingly moving five-episode adventure with a focus on Hyperion Rhys employee (played by Troy Baker) and Pandoran swindler Fiona (Fiona Bailey) while trying to locate and open one Vault.

It follows Telltales’ usual cinematic narrative adventure formula, but it hits on almost all fronts, with a lot of style and wit, a surprisingly engaging plot, an immensely pleasant cast of characters, brilliant settings and, oh yes, none but five of the most joyfully memorable intro sequences ever committed to video games

Unfortunately, Tales from the Borderlands suffered a fate similar to several other Telltale titles and was withdrawn from sale after the studio closed in 2018.

However, Gearbox has now announced that it will republish all five episodes in a single package starting February 17, with the only change being the removal of the player choice comparison screens presented at the end of each episode.

Despite its unquestionable quality, Tales from the Borderlands did not bring the kind of sales that Telltale management expected in its original release. As a result, the series was almost dropped in the middle – and was only completed after its passionate development team convinced studio heads to let them end production with a minimal team that remained overtime as a voluntary choice.

Tales from the Borderlands’s return to PlayStation, Xbox and PC next week finally gives the game a second chance at success – and who knows, maybe one day we might see Rhys and Fiona get together for a second, eagerly awaited adventure.
