Teenager Helotes shares the experience of the modern vaccine trial COVID-19

HELOTES, Texas – A teenager Helotes is feeling more confident leaving home today after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I was able to go to more places and go out more with my friends and I don’t like to worry so much,” said Hannah Ross, 14, who participated in a trial of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine conducted by Tekton Research.

“Nobody gets anywhere without medical tests. If no one is willing to take any chances, no one will have the benefit of having the vaccine. And then, when she said she wanted to do that, I supported it, ”said Judy Ross, Hannah’s mother.

Hannah received her first injection on December 18, unsure whether it was the vaccine or a placebo.

“I had a fever of over 100 for two days and then I also had body aches, chills and fatigue,” she said.

Hannah had her second chance on January 13.

“The second was just fever and body aches,” she said.

“She has to go every three months to do the blood collection, so they can look at their antibody levels and see what they do and also do the COVID test,” said Judy Ross.

Hannah’s parents also received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We still mask when we go out and still distance ourselves socially, but we just don’t have to worry about whether we’re going to get it or give it to someone else,” said Judy Ross.

Hannah said she is feeling great and doing gymnastics.

“She goes to the gym about 25 hours a week, every now and then in competitions,” said Judy Ross.

Hannah’s mother said that having most of the family vaccinated makes life a lot easier.

“We are not concerned if someone is not masked or is too close,” said Judy Ross.

Moderna also began testing its vaccine on children under 12, which includes babies as young as six months of age. The clinical trial, the KIDCOVE study, will enroll approximately 6,750 children in the United States and Canada.
