Teenager's Revenge Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder

If you were a child in America during the late twentieth century and have already entered an arcade with some coins burning in your pocket, you may have played one of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games. The original side-scrolling debuted in 1989 and its sequel, Turtles in time, was released in 1991. Now, decades later, we are about to get another side-scrolling sequence in the same style, called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Check out the new trailer below.

The cover of the theme song seems a little tense, doesn’t it? It looks like a doubtful father band, but Polygon points out that it is actually played by Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle’s fame. Apologies to Patton and all the Bungle-heads out there; the presentation of the original theme song is so ingrained in my head that I would probably have a chill with any cover, not just this one.

Either way, this four-player co-op mode comes from Dotemu publisher and game developer Tribute Games. Two of the key figures in the Tribute, Jonathan Lavigne and Justin Cyr, I previously worked on the great Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game side-scroller, which had similar dynamics, so this must be a satisfying setback experience. Especially for people who, like me, have injected an obscene number of coins into the classic TMNT arcade games whenever they visited the local pizzeria, entered Aladdin’s castle at the mall before seeing a movie or participated in a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese. Lavigne and Cyr also worked previously in 2007 TMNT game for Game Boy Advance, so they have an established history with this franchise.

Here is the official synopsis:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge brings Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello together to kick the shell in a beautifully realized pixel art world, invoking the classic 1987 design of the turtles. With Bebop and Rocksteady racking up gadgets to support the latest Krang and Shredder scheme, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge finds the turtles fighting on a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations to thwart their enemies’ most diabolical plan. Armed with shocking new skills built on a base of classic fighting mechanics, the gang is on the verge of an exciting adventure, trampling Foot Clan, taking them through the sewers and bustling neighborhoods of New York City to Dimension X.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge will be available for PC and consoles, but no release date has been announced yet.
