Teen Vogue executive editor Samhita Mukhopadhyay resigns

Teen Vogue executive editor Samhita Mukhopadhyay is leaving the Condé Nast title the day after Alexi McCammond, who was supposed to become editor-in-chief, came out in reaction to a controversy over racist tweets she did in high school in 2011.

Mukhopadhyay announced the change on Twitter on Friday: “I’ve been sitting on this ad for some time – but today is my last day as an executive editor at @TeenVogue! Working here has been one of the most rewarding, challenging and important experiences of my life. ”

“The work we did at Teen Vogue is historic and I know the team will only continue this legacy. It has been a difficult year and a few weeks especially difficult for us. It will take me a while to process everything,” she continued.

“But I stand firm in my belief in the transformative power of stories and in the importance of amplifying the most marginalized voices, those that liberate us.”

Mukhopadhyay’s move was announced internally about six weeks ago, said a Condé Nast source, before the announcement of McCammond’s hiring in Teen Vogue or the controversy over his tweets.

Mukhopadhyay joined Teen Vogue in 2018, after working as Mic’s senior editorial director for just under two years, according to LinkedIn. She has also worked for the National Women’s Business Council, the consulting firm Purpose, the now-defunct Feministing online community and the Center for Media Justice.

McCammond and Teen Vogue split on Thursday, because their previous tweets “obscured the work I did to highlight the people and issues that interest me – issues that Teen Vogue has been working tirelessly to share with the world,” she said. in a shared statement to Twitter.

McCammond was hired by Teen Vogue on March 5 and was due to start as editor-in-chief on March 24.
