The Texas senator’s family was happy taking a Mexican sunbath on Friday – without him – after leaving Lone Star State, where millions of people experienced power cuts and record freezing temperatures during a deadly winter storm, exclusive photos show.
Cruz’s wife, Heidi, was spotted on the sand wearing a red bikini under blue umbrellas, video and photos taken by The Post.
Cruz shortened his trip by two days and returned to Houston on Thursday night after receiving reactions from voters and colleagues for leaving his state while millions of Texans remained in the dark.
The Republican senator at first blamed his daughters for the trip, saying he was just accompanying them to Mexico.
But after arriving in the United States, he admitted to reporters that the escape was “obviously a mistake and, on second thought, I wouldn’t have done that”.
Heidi Cruz reportedly boasted of the couple’s trip to Cancún, saying in a text network that they were looking to escape the “ICE” time, according to leaked text messages obtained by local news agency Reform Austin.
The winter storm claimed the lives of more than 30 people across the state.
