Ted Cruz flew to Cancún with his family in the midst of an energy crisis in Texas: source

Senator Ted Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico, with his family this week, while Texas was dealing with a winter storm that until Thursday left 500,000 people without power, Fox News confirmed.

Photos of Cruz, R-Texas, at an airport began circulating on social media on Wednesday night, with people claiming that the senator had left the state for Cancún in the midst of a major crisis. A Republican source told Fox News that the allegations that Cruz was traveling to the Mexican city are true.

“The photos speak for themselves,” said the source.

LIVE UPDATES: TEXAS IS HAVING EXTREME TIME AS ANOTHER MAIN STORM IS COMING EAST

Temperatures this week have dropped to dangerous low records in the Lone Star State and overloaded power grids, leaving millions without power. At least 30 people died in the United States as a result of the extreme winter, according to the Associated Press.

Cruz acknowledged the seriousness of the crisis in a tweet on Tuesday, saying, “A blizzard hits Texas and our state is closed. Nothing good.” Cruz also praised on Thursday the owner of a furniture store that, according to FOX 26 in Houston, allowed 1,000 people in his store amid power cuts.
