It hasn’t been a bed of roses for developer Techland’s Dying Light 2. Since its revelation in 2018, the long-awaited first-person terror sequence infused by parkour has been plagued by setbacks, ranging from several delays to high-level team matches. After a hard-hitting report on his troubled development, Techland has now delivered a video update on the game.

At the same time, Techland promised that fans can expect an update on the progress of Dying Light 2 today, March 17th. And with this update now here, it is fair to say that those who expect something similar to substantial news will probably have been a little disappointed. Most of the update was spent with several team members reading angry messages from fans, while the rest just asked for their continued patience.

“This is a huge and complex project and we needed time to make sure it matches our vision,” explained Techland in a statement in the middle of the video. “All of us here are putting our hearts out to deliver a game that you will continue to play for months to come.”
Techland’s update also featured a handful of screenshots of the game – about 15 seconds in total – and, perhaps more surprisingly given recent reports of backstage difficulties, news that the developer plans to release Dying Light 2 sometime this year.
There is not much else to report now, but Techland says that “it will be ready to start talking about Dying Light 2 very, very soon”.
