Teams put the finishing touches to the New Year’s Eve crystal ball in Times Square in New York

TIMES SQUARE (WABC) – Workers are putting the finishing touches on the New Year’s Eve ball in Times Square on Sunday.

The ball is on the roof of Times Square 1 on Broadway, between 42nd and 43rd streets.

The teams are installing 192 new Waterford crystal triangles on the iconic ball that will fall at midnight.

This year’s project is entitled “Gift of Happiness” and weighs over 11,000 pounds and is 3.6 meters in diameter.

J. Lo will headline “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rock Eve” on ABC, performing in Times Square shortly before the launch of the ball that will begin 2021.

Billy Porter, who will have a dual role as host, is expected to meet Cyndi Lauper for a duet in New York. The two had previously collaborated on the Broadway hit “Kinky Boots”, for which Lauper wrote songs. Machine Gun Kelly and Jimmie Allen will also perform in Times Square.

Additional artists include Nelly, Miley Cyrus, Stallion Megan Thee, Doja Cat, Maluma, Ella Mai, Lewis Capaldi and Brandy.
