Team17 acquires branded golf from his friends for £ 12 million

Golf with your friends it was a hit with the players last year. Although we didn’t have the strongest opinions about it – giving it 6/10 stars – we thought it would be a decent multiplayer mini golf game, although one that suffered from complicated controls. Of course, it has been a success for the Team17 publishers, who have now purchased the rights and assets of the game from developer Blacklight Interactive for £ 12 million.

The purchase of Golf With Your Friends will be divided into two segments, consisting of an initial payment of £ 9 million, followed by an additional £ 3 million after 12 months. Speaking about this directly, Team17 revealed plans to “create additional opportunities to extend the life cycle of the existing game”. This includes additional DLC, with a potential sequel also being analyzed.

During this announcement, Team17 also shared its financial results for 2020, stating that they are “above expectations” and have witnessed a 34% increase.

Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick said the following about the news:

We are delighted to start 2021 with the announcement that we have acquired GWYF and we see great potential in this IP. Over the past two years, GWYF has shown strong consumer demand and mass market appeal, doubling its owner base and achieving success on several gaming platforms.

GWYF is the type of IP that we believe is right for ownership, it is successful and proven, but it is still at the beginning of its journey. The Blacklight Interactive team can be sure that we will take good care of this incredible IP.

What 2021 will bring to Team17 is yet to be seen, but we are certainly excited to see what they have planned.
