TCL pushes 8K and ‘OD Zero’ mini LED technology to its 2021 TVs

TCL’s impressive LCDs have been among our favorite TVs in recent years, so how do they look better for 2021? Following late on a promise from last year’s CES event, all new entries in its mid-range 6 series line will have 8K resolution that is four times sharper than 4K. While it is unlikely that you will have a lot of native 8K content to watch on the sets, they are prepared to increase the low resolution content. If you prefer to stick with 4K, the company says its existing line of Series 6 TVs will remain available.

The latest edition of the Series 6 LCD featured the second generation of TCL’s mini LED backlight technology and now LG and Samsung will sell TVs with similar technology. To keep pace with the package, TCL is launching its third generation of mini LED backlights, dubbed OD Zero. The name is Zero because the distance between its backlight layer and the LCD panel has been reduced to 0 mm, which should make the screen even thinner.
