TCL and Alcatel launch trio of Android tablets

Today, TCL is announcing a trio of Android tablets to be launched in the coming months, including a model using an NXTPAPER screen, its competitor to color E Ink.

From the spec sheet, TCL TAB 10S and TCL NXTPAPER have a lot in common. Both tablets run on Android 10, use a MediaTek MT8768 series chip and offer up to 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

The main thing that differentiates the two Android tablets is, in fact, the screen. The most affordable TCL TAB 10S has a traditional 10.1-inch tablet screen with 2000 × 1920 resolution, complete with TCL T-Pen support. The TAB 10S is also ready to be connected to various accessories – sold separately – via POGO pins.

This very traditional Android tablet will have a fantastic retail price of € 199 when it launches in March in the EU, North America, Middle East / Africa, China, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

At the upper end of the spectrum, the TCL NXTPAPER is the first tablet to use the company’s NXTPAPER display technology – announced last year – that TCL claims “offers a visual experience similar to paper without flickering or harmful blue light”, apparently similar to an E Ink color. The supposed benefits of the NXTPAPER tablet are that you will have no flicker and less blue light, which should help to reduce the normal eye strain of using the technology for long periods.

The TCL NXTPAPER Android tablet, with its eponymous display technology, will sell for € 349 when it launches in April. Unfortunately, there is no current indication of a North American release.

Meanwhile, TCL’s Alcatel sub-brand also announced a range of devices today, including a tablet, the Alcatel 1T 7. What makes Alcatel 1T 7 interesting is that it actually runs on Android 10 (Go edition), which means that offers a significantly reduced Android experience, capable of running on very affordable hardware. Specifically, the Alcatel 1T 7 Android tablet will be launched for just € 59 later this month, but TCL has not shared any details about the hardware or in which countries it will be available.
