The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on the metric consumption measured in equivalent album units. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit is equivalent to an album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 supported by ads or 1,250 paid / on-demand subscription to official audio and video generated by songs from an album. Of EverWith 56,000 equivalent album units earned in the follow-up week ending January 7, SEA units comprise 38,000 (equaling 50.43 million streams on demand for the album’s songs), album sales span 16,000 and TEA units comprise 2,000.
although Ever there was a 22% decline in units, this drop was mitigated by the release of a deluxe edition of the album on Thursday, January 7, the last day of the week following the charts. The new edition has two additional songs. (All versions of the album are combined for tracking purposes.)
Ever captures the smallest total unit of a No. 1 album in nearly two years since Hoodie’s A Boogie Wit SZN Hoodie was No. 1 on the February 16, 2019 chart, with just 47,000 units. (The top of the chart can sometimes be a little light in units at the beginning of the year, as few new albums are released in January. In the new chart, for example, there are no debuts in the top 100, and a week ago, there were only a debut on the entire list: Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red in paragraph 1.)
Lil Durk’s The voice rises 3-2 in its third week on the list, a new peak, with 48,000 equivalent album units won (down 28%). The voice corresponds to the top of Lil Durk’s career list, as his last release, Just cause you waited 2 reached number 2 on the July 11, 2020 chart.
The voice debuted at 46th position on the January 2nd chart after just one day of activity, as the album was released on Thursday, December 24th (the last day of the week following the January 2nd chart). Then it moved up to number 3 in its first full week of chart tracking.
A trio of ex-No. 1s are next, like Pop Smoke’s Shoot the stars, aim the moon rises 4-3 with 44,000 equivalent album units (down 3%), from Ariana Grande Positions rises 5-4 with 35,000 units (down 8%) and Playboi Carti’s Whole Lotta Red falls 1-5 in its second week with 33,000 units (down 66%). Megan Thee Stallion’s Good news jumps 7-6 with just over 32,000 units won (down 4%).
The rest of the top 10 comprises former chart leaders: Luke Combs’ What you see is what you get goes up 8-7 (32,000 equivalent album units won; down 4%), Bad Bunny’s The Last World Tour moves 9-8 (31,000; down 7%), Juice WRLD’s Legends never die jumps 11-9 (30,000; 4% drop) and Lil Baby My turn heels 13-10 (29,000; 2% drop).
