Taylor Swift opened her refreshing and discreet medley award show with “Cardigan”, from her surprise release in 2020, the eccentric “folklore” – a collaboration with producers and screenwriters Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner.
Swift, 31, quickly transformed herself into an amber-lit diva singer and songwriter with “August”, followed by an equally naturalistic “Willow”.
The general consensus of social media was that it was less flashy than normal the performance was positively “dreamy”.
It has been 13 years since Swift won his first Grammy as Best New Artist.
She was 18 when she lost that 2008 trophy to the late Amy Winehouse – but she has racked up an impressive series of Grammy awards over the years, including two Album of the Year trophies, for “Fearless” 2010 and “1989” 2016 .
Now, Swift has been nominated for six 2021 Grammys: she’s competing for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album (“folklore”), Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance (“Cardigan”) and Best Written Song for Visual Media ( “Beautiful Ghosts” from the 2019 soundtrack to the doomed film “Cats”).
“It is very strange how much time has passed since my first Grammy nomination. I still feel very lucky to still be a part of this night, ”Swift told ET during a rehearsal break earlier this week. “I think the advice I would give myself when I was younger is probably, when things get tough, always focusing on how much I love music.”
If she wins the grand prize, Swift will become the first woman to win the Album of the Year three times.
Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are among the few male performers who have won the album of the year three times. Backstage talent has also won the award three times, including superstar producers and songwriters Phil Ramone, Ryan Tedder, David Foster and others.
