Taylor Swift is not a fan of the new Netflix series, “Ginny & Georgia”, and the singer made that very clear on Monday, when she published the program on Twitter.
The pop superstar exploded with anguished comedy after one of her main characters made a joke about the singer’s ex-boyfriends – a punch that the singer-songwriter called “lazy” and “deeply sexist”.
The line was delivered by proprietor Ginny (Antonia Gentry), a 15-year-old biracial woman who moved to New England with her 30-year-old mother, Georgia (Brianne Howey), and her younger brother.
Swift, 31, included a captioned image of the splinter that Ginny threw at Georgia: “What does it matter to you? You pass men faster than Taylor Swift. “
And, it seems, Swift worries a lot.
“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and wants their lazy and deeply sexist joke back”, the singer and songwriter tweeted. “How about we stop degrading working women by defining this horse as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana, that outfit doesn’t look pretty on you, Happy Women’s History Month, I think. “
Swift has spoken openly about his frustration with the media’s obsession with his love life, notably facing Golden Globe Awards co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for making a similar joke in 2013 and writing a series of articles on ” public humiliation “of the fixation.
Netflix’s jab in the last part of its tweet refers to the streaming titan’s 2020 documentary about it, “Miss Americana”.
One thing is for sure: those who didn’t know about “Ginny & Georgia”, which Netflix ranked number one in the United States, certainly have it in mind now because of Swift. The 10-episode series debuted on Wednesday and was compared to “Gilmore Girls” for its pranks and cultural criticism. It was also rated as “Degrassi dipped in acid”.
By the way, “Degrassi: Next Class”, also broadcast on Netflix, recently made a similar joke – “Taylor Swift made a whole career out of his exes” – that angered Swifties and made “Respect Taylor Swift” a trend on Twitter.
The campaign became a trend again on Monday after Swift criticized the series. Fans of Lady Gaga and Lana Del Rey also accessed Twitter to publicize the jokes made about these singers.
