Taylor Sheridan sets ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff, Paramount + oil drama

The prolific producer will now have six programs for ViacomCBS.

ViacomCBS is transforming Taylor Sheridan into a brand for the Paramount + streamer.

THE Yellowstone the creator is adding a third show to the franchise with a spinoff starring Jefferson White and Ryan Bingham reprising their respective roles as ranchers Jimmy Hurdstrom and Walker. The spinoff joins that of Sheridan previously announced Yellowstone prequel series, Y: 1883, at Paramount +.

Sheridan also put together a sixth show for ViacomCBS, with Land Man, based on Texas Monthly’s Boomtown podcast. This series will also call Paramount + your home and join the Paramount network transfer Kingstown Mayor, starring Jeremy Renner and spy drama Lioness on the streamer that is about to be renamed CBS All Access on March 4th. (Watch Sheridan discuss his vision for all of his shows in the video interview, below).

See how the Yellowstone spinoff – provisionally titled 6666 – is described: Founded when the Comanches still ruled western Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in western history than 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries ago and spanning an entire county, 6666 is where it is. rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the next most dangerous thing to do is the next … The 6666 is synonymous with ruthless effort to raise the best horses and cattle in the world and, finally, where cowboys world class are born and done. Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari are executive producers.

Land Man, in the meantime, it is based on the 11-part podcast about how the oil industry in western Texas is reshaping the country’s climate, economy and geopolitics. The drama takes place in the proverbial prosperous cities of western Texas, and is described as a modern story of fortune search in the world of oil platforms. The series is an up / down story of bullies and wild billionaires fueling a boom so big that it is reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics. Land Man executive production by Sheridan and production by Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari.

THE Yellowstone spinoff and Land Man are produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and Glasser’s 101 Studios, directed by ViacomCBS ‘Chris McCarthy. “Yellowstone it’s the # 1 show with tens of millions of fans based on the characters Taylor created and his gift for building the world, “said McCarthy, who serves as president of the MTV Entertainment Group.” With Paramount +, our strategy is to overwhelm subscribers by franchising our biggest successful IP, as we are doing with Yellowstone prequela Y: 1883 and build a new IP with creative talents like Taylor. “

With the untitled spinoff, the world of Yellowstone it grows to three series while the flagship awaits the premiere date for its fourth season on the Paramount Network linear cabler. (The former Spike TV is being renamed this year as Paramount Movie Network.) Yellowstone it was a monstrous success for Paramount Network. The end of the third season last August reached a total of 5.16 million viewers, crowning the season that crowned the program as the most watched cable entertainment program of 2020. The series led by Kevin Costner, co-created by Sheridan and John Linson, is currently broadcasting on NBCUniversal’s Peacock while ViacomCBS seeks to extend the program’s reach before bringing the library back to Paramount +.

Sheridan renewed its nine-digit general contract with ViacomCBS earlier this month. The pact includes five cycles per year of series of roadmaps and procedures and will see Sheridan provide content for MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios for platforms including, but not limited to, CBS, Paramount Network, Paramount + and other ViacomCBS brands. It will also have the ability to sell to third-party buyers.

Yellowstone it was the first drama chosen for a series for Paramount Network after it was renamed (from Spike TV) as a general entertainment destination by former Viacom executive Kevin Kay. (It was Kay who started negotiations for a general agreement with Sheridan years ago.) Yellowstone it became a subscription success for Paramount and inspired McCarthy, who oversees all basic ViacomCBS cable networks, to build around event-style originals with great characters at their center, be it scripted series or original films .

“Taylor, Paramount + and MTV Entertainment Studios have been incredible partners for us at 101 over the years,” said Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. “Together, we were able to build Yellowstone in an immersive universe for audiences worldwide. And that is what we intend to do with these series as well. We will be introducing new characters and stories alongside world-class talent and creators. We are very much looking forward to bringing these programs to life. “

The redesign of the Paramount + brand was designed to fully integrate brands like Paramount, MTV, Comedy Central and more under the umbrella of ViacomCBS. To this end, a new incarnation of MTV The real world – entitled Homecoming and featuring the original New York cast – will be available when CBS All Access is re-released as Paramount + on March 4. Paramount TV’s list of studios was just one of many announcements revealed during Wednesday’s presentation to investors.

Sheridan is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment, Elevate Entertainment and Meyer & Downs.
