Tar Heels is still in search of this 5 stars

The UNC basketball program is still looking for a five-star candidate in the 2021 recruiting class, as it hopes to get a big fish for that cycle.

After winning commitments to four-star prospects Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn, UNC has been quiet since the summer in terms of adding more talent. They lost a handful of recruits they were interested in, but claimed that Hunter Sallis, Chet Holmgren and Patrick Baldwin are the three remaining final targets.

Although Baldwin and Holmgren have not really revealed when they are going to make a decision, Sallis is expected to announce this in March.

The Nebraska Five Star Guard combo is the top left target of the UNC and is the one they really need to land for this class. However, in recent months, it seems that the Tar Heels have weakened a little in this recruitment and are sitting here in third place in the March decision, behind Gonzaga and Kentucky.

Although the Bulldogs seem to be the favorites in the decision, that did not stop Tar Heels from contacting Sallis and still trying to withdraw him.

Eric Bossi, from 247 Sports, talked to Sallis about how things are going with his recruitment and mentioned some teams that are constantly contacting him:

With about six weeks to go, Sallis was giving no clue. He said he is still in the final stages of the decision-making process and is still talking to several of his finalists.

“I’ve been talking to Iowa, Creighton, Gonzaga, North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas,” said Sallis. “These are the schools with which I have spoken most.”

Tar Heels may have an outside chance of landing Sallis, but with his importance to the 2021 class, Roy Williams and his team are not backing down yet. Sallis would be a great addition to the 2021 class and would fulfill a great need for a marker guard in the ward.

But they have some work to do by the end of March.
