One of the main recruitment targets for UNC basketball has officially set the date of its announcement and will commit to a program in late March
The UNC basketball program currently has two players enrolled in the 2021 recruiting class, but is looking for three more candidates. Roy Williams and his team hope to get one of these three five-star candidates and officially end the class.
On Sunday, one of these targets provided an important update for its recruitment and when it will be officially closed.
The owner of the five-star combo Hunter Sallis revealed on Sunday afternoon that he will officially announce his decision on Friday, March 26. The Nebraska native accessed Twitter to break the news:
Sallis has made it to the last 8 schools and will officially decide between UNC, Gonzaga, Kentucky, UCLA, Creighton, Kansas, Oregon and Iowa State. 1 player in the state of Nebraska according to 247 sports recruitment ratings.
He received his official offer from UNC a year ago, and Tar Heels has since been considered a legitimate threat. Many believe this was a two-team race between North Carolina and Kentucky for the longest time, but as the weeks went by, Gonzaga also gave a big boost.
Still, we could be heading for a Blue Blood battle between Tar Heels and Wildcats in the coming weeks.
UNC would love to add a combo guard who can come in and play in his backcourt immediately next season. Although RJ Davis and Caleb Love have played better lately, adding a player like Sallis would be a huge boost to the backcourt, especially as a combo point guard. That would give UNC more depth as well, including Anthony Harris coming back for another year.
