The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the Kansas City Chiefs in next month’s Super Bowl, a game that will feature current champions and a team that hasn’t been in the game for the NFL title for nearly two decades.
The Buccaneers defeated the Green Bay Packers, 31-26, to secure the NFC title. The Chiefs defeated Buffalo Bills, 38-24, to win the AFC title.
The Buccaneers will be the first team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl game at their stadium at Raymond James Stadium on February 7.
In brief comments after his team defeated the Packers at Wisconsin’s Lambeau Field, coach Bruce Arians attributed the victory to quarterback Tom Brady, who left the New England Patriots last year after 20 seasons and six Super Bowl victories.
“It took just one man,” said Arians.
Despite the initial mistakes, the Chiefs reacted, scoring 21 points in the second quarter and firing Bills star quarterback Josh Allen four times during the game. The Chiefs opened as a 3-point favorite.
Asked after the game how they can defeat Brady and the Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he and his teammates “just have to be ourselves”.
“I trust my boys more than anyone,” he said.
Mahomes took the franchise to its first Super Bowl victory in half a century last year, with a 31-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Last year, Mahomes agreed to a historic $ 500 million contract extension after being named the league’s most valuable player and is considered a 2020 MVP candidate.
Brady, who has been an MVP three times, is also believed to be in the running.
