Take-Two suggests that the new title will not be released soon due to the remastering of the next generation of GTA V

Although not officially announced, GTA 6 is perhaps one of the most anticipated games of all time.

Before that, though, we can expect to see some remastered from the current games.

But, according to Take-Two Interactive, they are more than just doors.

A Silent Generation

When it comes to new titles, the last generation has been very smooth for Rockstar, with Red Dead Redemption 2 being the only major game released.

Instead, we saw a series of doors launched, including GTA V and Bully.

If the current rumors are true, we can expect more of the same in this generation as well.

Doors, Doors, Doors

During a PS5 showcase event last year, it was revealed that GTA V will have a next generation port in 2021.

This means that GTA V will have spanned three generations, having been released on Xbox 360 / PS3 in 2013, before being ported to PS4 / Xbox One in 2014.

More than seven years have passed since the initial release of GTA V and, despite many rumors, an official confirmation of GTA 6 has never been released by Rockstar, and we could be waiting for much more for the next release of the Grand Theft Auto series.

In addition to the next-generation GTA V port, it is rumored that we will see a 2010 Red Dead Redemption port, as well as remasters / remakes of the classic GTA, GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas trilogy that was originally released for the PlayStation 2 in the early 2000s.

Rockstar is also working on a new IP, so while it appears to be a busy generation for Rockstar, so far all of its plans do not seem to include GTA 6.

More than just a port

Speaking at Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, gave some insight into the companies’ mindset towards remasters and what to expect from the remastered GTA V for next generation consoles.

“Remastering has always been part of the strategy. We did something different from the competition – not only did we transfer the titles, in fact we took the time to do the best job, we can make the title different for the new release, for the new technology we’re launching on . “

He then went on to discuss the process for the remasters, saying:

“So we improved the technology, updated the visuals and made performance improvements, which is why I think our remastered titles tend to do so well.”

Zelnik concluded by discussing the impact that GTA V had on the previous two generations,

“We did very well with the Mafia series, for example, and Grand Theft Auto V is now entering its third generation, which is incredible. It was a flagship when it was launched, it continued to be the flagship in the second generation, we will see how Grand Theft Auto will fare in the next generation. Obviously, I’m confident that Rockstar will offer a great experience, but you can’t do that if you’re just doing a simple conversion. “

So far, a release date has not been set for the new generation of remastered GTA V, we only know that it will be released in 2021.

The fall / winter of 2021 seems likely, as that is when most of the major titles are released.

NEXT GENERATION: a next generation GTA V remaster will be released this year

It is likely that we will have an official release date in the coming months, possibly in late spring / early summer, when E3 2021 is due to take place.

E3’s live conferences and events have been canceled, but the show is still going on as a fully digital event, which is great news and was canceled last year and left a void for many fans who await it each year.

What does all this mean for GTA 6

Taking into account what Zelnik said during the conference, and the current rumors about future remasters, Rockstar seems to be busy with the predictable, which means that it will be unlikely that we will see GTA 6 anytime soon.

The current release date is rumored to be the end of 2023, it has been reported that Take-Two Interactive has set aside approximately $ 89 million for marketing in 2023, a huge amount that is reserved only for major releases, such as a GTA games.

This launch window still leaves enough time for Rockstar to finish all of its remasters.

The release of GTA V is scheduled for the end of this year, but it has also been reported that another development team is in charge of the PS2 remastering trilogy, which releases Rockstar.

And, if the RDR remastering is going on, it will probably be done by another studio as well, or at least another Rockstar subdivision, leaving Rockstar North free to focus on GTA 6.

So, if the 2023 release date is true, we may have a lot of Rockstar games to play in this current generation.
