Take-Two confirms that GTA 6 will be a single player game

In an era of online gaming, and despite the success of GTA Online, Rockstar is still firmly committed to the player experience.

Although the last entry in the series was released in 2013, we still haven’t heard any official information about GTA 6, but Rockstar has suggested its existence and this tip is no different.

Rockstar is still committed to single player games

GTA Online is a hugely successful property for Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive, with gaming revenue growing 28% year over year.

During a results conference call earlier this week, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that the plan for GTA 5 and Online was to always launch as a single player game and then add multiplayer later, which is what they did .

“The people at Rockstar Games wanted to create a powerful single-player experience and a story-driven experience … and then further developed a huge multiplayer opportunity in recent years.”

Even with a shift in the industry for multiplayer games, instead of single player experiences, Take-Two still believes in single player games,

“There was a discussion just a few years ago, not around here, not in this store, but in some of our competitors’ offices, that single-player is dead, which is all about multiplayer. We didn’t believe that. I said specifically and publicly that we didn’t believe it, our record companies don’t believe it ”.

GTA V took the company to new heights, generating US $ 1 billion in revenue in the first three days, and for that it has already sold more than 140 million copies, while GTA Online generates more than US $ 700 million per year.

Both entities set new sales and activity records in 2020, showing that the GTA brand shows no signs of slowing down.

RECORD SETTING: GTA V has sold over 140 million copies.

Although Online generates more than $ 700 million a year, Rockstar and Take-Two would have to be crazy to turn their back on the revenue generated by the central GTA games.

At best, where each copy was purchased for $ 60, GTA V would have generated $ 8.4 billion in revenue so far, which is no small change.

GTA: Wild West edition, or Red Dead Redemption 2 as it is also known, has sold over 36 million copies.

Although not as popular, it is highly regarded as one of the best experiences for a player to date.

It is highly unlikely that Rockstar will stop developing single-player GTA games, even if the online aspect performs well.

Therefore, it is safe to say that GTA 6 will be a single player game like the previous entries.
