Take a virtual tour of the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the brand’s first electric sedan to hit the production line later this year. So far, the electric sedan’s flagship looks impressive. In addition to the impressive MBUX Hyperscreen, the EQS will have a WLTP range of up to 770 km (479 miles).

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the new EV, but the video above will give us a better idea. Our own Kyle Conner took a virtual ride with Dr. Fabian Wuttke, project leader, development of the Daimler sedan. While Dr. Wuttke was touring Stuttgart, he discussed how the entire architecture of the vehicle was developed from scratch, not based on an ICE vehicle, which is probably the main reason why it is so efficient. Another thing that helps the EQS efficiency is its very low 0.20 Cd, the brand claims that it is the lowest of any series production vehicle.

Dr. Wuttke confirmed that the battery has 107.8 kWh of usable energy and the total size is just over 113 kWh. The maximum charging speed is 200 kW, reaching a distance of about 300 km (more than 180 miles) in just 15 minutes. The load curve should remain relatively flat up to 80 percent. Once the EPA has rated the EQS, it will be lower than the WLTP rating, probably in the 400-mile area.

The version he drove produced a total of 385 kW (516 hp) and 828 Nm of torque (611 lb-ft) from his front and rear engines. He said the big sedan will reach 100 km / h (62 mph) in just 4.3 seconds and could be launched multiple times. Even though he was fast, Dr. Wuttke emphasized the comfort level of the EQS. The brand wants to maintain the S-Class heritage of maximum comfort, which means that Mercedes has focused heavily on reducing NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) and overall comfort levels.

Mercedes will continue to release information as the production date approaches later this year, including OTA update information.
