Take a look at this beautiful preview of Nintendo console sales

Nintendo has had many ups and downs as a company, from the early 20th century in the console market to the 2017 launch of the Nintendo Switch (which some of you may have heard of). It doesn’t seem like a long time ago we were writing sad news about the Wii U, or looking back on the 3DS, now that Nintendo has stopped making the little ones.

Now, we can see the last 31 years of Nintendo console sales in one big picture, thanks to Visual Capitalist (click here for full resolution image). It may not include sales of the surprising Virtual Boy, but it covers a substantial number of Nintendo plastic toys, from the Game Boy to the present day.

2009 was an excellent year for Ninty, with the DS and Wii breaking sales records, and it seems that the Switch may one day reach its peak. With 154 million DS sales in its ten-year life and 101 million Wii sales, the Switch has a long way to go, but with almost four years of existence it has sold over 68 million units, with a projection of 45 million more in 2020 alone (thank you, Cross between animals!).
