Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC to receive orders via text and social media

As if the mobile order was no longer dangerously easy, Yum! Branded restaurants will start taking orders via text message and social media after the acquisition of an Israeli technology startup.

The fast food company, which runs Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC and the lesser-known Habit Burger Grill, announced the purchase of Tictuk Technologies on Wednesday. The private technology company focuses on the conversation business and will give it to Yum! Brands use software systems to allow customers to place orders via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, SMS, QR codes and email, Yum said in a statement.

2020 was a record year for the fast food company, which manages 50,000 restaurants in more than 150 countries. Last year, the company raised a whopping $ 17 billion in digital sales, marking a 45% increase over the previous year. Fast food sales skyrocketed during the coronavirus pandemic, as dining room seats in traditional restaurants are still largely restricted and customers prefer low-touch drive-thru service.
