While T-Mobile technically acquired Sprint almost nine months ago with the ultimate goal of closing the “Now Network” and migrating as many customers as possible to the country’s leading “Non-operator”, this transition of two service providers without wire for great strength to be considered has always been considered a long and quite complicated process.
For what it’s worth, the multi-year venture seems to be progressing at a relatively slow, but decidedly orderly pace, as T-Mo plans to stop activating CDMA-only devices and devices without VoLTE support on Sprint’s legacy network already. on January 1, 2021, according to a recent letter allegedly received by a “valuable business customer”.
There are only four days until the writing of this article, which seems exceptionally short for something so apparently important, but which only concerns new activations, In fact, Sprint subscribers have nothing to worry about … yet.
Then again, the time will come “around January 1, 2022” to release all CDMA-only devices and dual-mode CDMA / LTE devices without Voice over LTE features still in use. That’s because Magenta intends to completely shut down the archaic Sprint CDMA network in about a year, which seems more or less to align with the general schedule shared by CEO Mike Sievert just a few weeks ago.
Sievert described his company’s Sprint elimination moves in 2020 as mostly “isolated” issues, predicting that the aforementioned efforts will barely begin “for real” sometime in 2022. Clearly, shutting down a CDMA network looks like a big and ” serious “step to bury Sprint’s name and technology after already uniting its brand with that of T-Mobile for marketing purposes and combining the 5G capabilities of the two for crushing purposes Verizon and AT&T.
