T-Mobile presents Home Office Internet for companies

T-Mobile announced some new services for corporate customers today, including Home Office wireless Internet. Part of a trio of services that T-Mobile is calling WFX, the Home Office Internet is designed to complement customers’ standard home Internet with a separate cellular-based Wi-Fi network. The goal is to provide a reliable and secure connection for business customers without having to worry about sharing bandwidth with the rest of the home.

Home Office Internet is an extension of the LTE-based residential wireless broadband service that is being tested now and works in much the same way. Users receive a router and can install the network on their own. It uses 4G and 5G signals and, like customer service, includes a potentially important caveat: customers are subject to downgrading slows when the network is busy. This is an annoyance for anyone, but it would be particularly bad for customers trying to do business on the network.

The Home Office Internet will be available to businesses from March 22, and at launch, T-Mobile says 60 million homes will be covered. The company plans to expand that number to 90 million homes by 2025. T-Mobile has not shared any updates on the residential broadband service, which is still being tested in some markets.
