Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim reacts to Louisville’s postponed game and talks about possible makeup games

Syracuse, NY – Syracuse’s game in Louisville on Wednesday was postponed after a member of the Cardinals’ basketball program tested positive for the coronavirus.

News of the postponement came less than five hours before the game was reported at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville.

“It’s the year we are in,” said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, shortly after receiving news that the game had been canceled. “It’s difficult, but you have to wait for things like this to happen in times like these and be ready to deal with it. ”

Syracuse’s game in Louisville on Wednesday marked the second time a game between the Orange and the Cardinals has been postponed this season. Louisville was scheduled to play in Syracuse on February 3, but the game was canceled when a test result from a Louisville program member tested positive on the morning of the game.

Syracuse (12-6 overall, 6-5 ACC) has now had five games postponed this season, without being rescheduled or compensated.

Boeheim said he believed the ACC and SU officials would score a game for Orange during the final week of the regular season. The last game of the Syracuse season is against North Carolina on Monday, March 1st.

“We will have a game last week, I think, after playing North Carolina,” said Boeheim. “I’m not sure who it will be, but I think we are going to play against someone that Wednesday. ”

Boeheim also said Syracuse could play on the last Saturday of the regular season. Orange does not have a game on March 6, but could get a game if another ACC team has to take a break that weekend.

When talking about the possibility of inventing some ACC games, Boeheim dropped the notion of playing with an opponent outside the conference.

“We need to look at conference games, ” he said. “There is some chance that maybe a team will not be able to play that Saturday and we will have a game. But let’s just play conference games. This is what we have to do. ”

Specifically, regarding Colgate, which is 9-1 and ranked 11th in the NCAA NET ranking, Boeheim said: “Their conference will not let them play (outside the conference). ”

Syracuse’s next game is on Saturday against Notre Dame at the Carrier Dome. After that, Syracuse is in Duke on February 22 and at Georgia Tech on February 27. Syracuse hosts North Carolina at the Dome, in what, for now, is the last game of the regular season for Orange.
