Switched V-8 E30 M3 Track a 911 GT3 RS on the track

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the standard daily track car. You will probably see at least one at any event you go to simply because he does his job very well. Most people follow this path because it is easy and because the RS is very rewarding to drive in a closed circuit. But some people, like Phil Morrison of Driftworks in the UK, take a slightly different path. One that involves exchanging V-8s and fireballs.

Instead of simply buying a Porsche or BMW ready for HPDE task tracks, Morrison decided to build his own. He used an E30 M3 projectile and replaced the 4.0-liter S65 V-8 and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission of an E90 generation M3, creating a light Bavarian missile on wheels. The classic formula of the large V-8 plus the small chassis equals mega performance is evident on the track.

During a recent event at Donington Park, Morrison came across a 991 generation 911 GT3 RS – the one with a 520 horsepower flat-six and a fast-changing PDK – and actually managed to keep up with him during the session, the two cars overtaking the rest of the circuit.

There’s a lot of action as the two cars take Donington at high speed, with a seemingly endless stream of fireballs appearing from the M3’s exhausts with each downshift. You will want the sound loud for this one.
