As smart watches continue to gain market share in traditional mechanical watches, Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie continues to claim that “if you can’t beat them, join them ”with the latest version of your Swiss Alp Watch inspired by Apple which now even includes a mechanical rotary loading icon.

When the Swiss Alp Watch debuted for the first time in 2016, was even introduced with a ironic video parody Apple product launches. But it wasn’t just Apple’s marketing that H. Moser was imitating. Wwith your square box, the Swiss Alp Watch looked like an Apple Watch clone, but only on the outside. Inside was a genuine Swiss movement that needed rope to maintain the watch’s only ‘application’ –tell the time – working. Only 50 of them were produced, priced at $ 25,000 to appeal to watchmaking enthusiasts who want a wearable statement about not joining the smartwatch.

Five years later, H. Moser revealed what he is calling Swiss Alp Watch final update– another blow to Apple’s annual update cycle for its smart wearables. Alwaysvisible face of the original Swiss Alp Watch is an indication that it wasn’t from Apple, but it’s harder to distinguish the final update from the most recent iterations of the Apple Watch.

The reflective face of the original Swiss Alp Watch was painted using the same light absorption system (more than 99% of visible light) Vantablack ink that made a museum visitor fall into a 2.5 meter hole that looked like it was painted on the floor. Paired with black-painted hour and minute hands, makes the final update appear to have a genuine OLED display.

WWhile the first Swiss Alp Watch used a smaller traditional dial to display the movements of the second hand of the watch, in the final update, it was replaced by a rotating gradient disc revealed by a series of openings that recreates the charging icon seen most often on Apple smartphones. But under the face, you’ll find H. Moser’s HMC 324 gauge movement that runs for about 96 hours between windings.

Like the original, the Swiss Alp Watch, The final update is being limited to just 50 pieces—but they now cost $ 30,800. For so much money, you can buy almost 40 of the most expensive Apple Watch Series 6 models and use a different one every day for more than a month. But while the final update has no apps, it will last longer than the Apple Watch before it needs to be powered on.
