STOCKHOLM, January 31 (Reuters) – Scandinavia’s biggest film festival is taking place this year, despite the coronavirus pandemic, but it will be held on an isolated island and will admit only one participant – a health professional, selected from 12,000 candidates.

Swedish film fan and nurse Lisa Enroth was chosen to be the castaway at the 2021 Gothenburg Film Festival, who will spend a week on the remote island of Pater Noster watching film after film.

“In healthcare, I seem to have spent a lot of time listening, testing and consoling. I feel like I’m out of energy,” said Enroth.

Pater Noster, on the border of a dense archipelago on the west coast of Sweden, is known for its lighthouse.

“The wind, the sea, the possibility of being part of a totally different reality for a week – all of this is very attractive,” said Enroth, who will keep a video diary that will appear on the festival’s website.

Festival CEO Mirja Wester said: “It seems particularly certain to be able to offer this unique experience to one of the many health system heroes who are working hard against COVID-19.”
