Surplus of rural vaccines in Missouri sparks urban frustration

ST. LOUIS (AP) – More than 7,700 doses of vaccine were left after the mass vaccination events in Missouri last week. This is fueling the frustration that rural counties have been unable to find enough people to use them while urban residents are desperate for a dose.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Missouri Department of Public Security records show that the remaining doses were generally transferred to another local provider or maintained by the health department for later use. Throughout these clinics, 152 doses were discarded.

Missouri plans to transition mass vaccination teams to larger-scale events in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas.
