Surfing duck delights Australian bathers during quarantine

Meet the Australian version of Mandarin Duck from Central Park.

A pet duck, affectionately called “Duck”, has become a surfing phenomenon on Australia’s Gold Coast, where he is often seen surfing the waves of Rainbow Bay.

“I would be confident to say that he is the only duck like him in the world,” owner Kate Miller told the BBC.

Miller adopted Duck, 8, to lift her spirits during the coronavirus pandemic – and had no idea she was creating a local celebrity.

“I could write a book about people’s reactions. Everyone is amazed and intrigued, and he always attracts a crowd, ”said Miller.

The family started bringing Duck to the beach to surf, and he quickly went into the water.

“We caught a wave and he just follows us and realizes it’s fun,” said Miller, who said that Duck loves to surf so much that he realized that Miller is going to the beach.

“When we open the bottle of sunscreen, it can honestly smell it,” said Miller.

Duck is reminiscent of the multicolored Mandarin Duck that drew crowds to the Central Park lake in late 2018.
