Supreme Court rejects Trump ally challenge for second round in Georgia Senate

The Supreme Court on Monday denied an appeal from Trump’s ally and conspiracy theorist Lin Wood, who was trying to prevent the second round of the Georgia Senate election on January 5.

The judges rejected the request in an unsigned order, with no dissenters noted, about two months after the disputes produced two victories that gave Democrats control of the Senate.

The court’s decision came on the same day that the judges rejected the former President TrumpDonald TrumpUS, South Korea agrees on cost sharing for Graham troops: Trump can make the GOP bigger, stronger or “could destroy it”.The final pending appeal on the results of the 2020 election, adding to a series of post-election court losses to Trump and his allies, including Wood.

Wood, a lawyer, filed a challenge in Georgia’s Senate dispute in December, arguing that an expanded absenteeism program that the state implemented in the midst of the pandemic violated the U.S. Constitution and Georgia state law.

A federal judge in Georgia dismissed the case, finding that Wood had no standing to sue.
