Supreme Court closed 2 cases of Trump fees

One lawsuit, filed by Washington’s Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics group, along with restaurant owners and New York area workers, was filed days after Trump’s inauguration in 2017. The other was filed in June of that year by prosecutors- of the District of Columbia and Maryland.

After more than three years in court, none of the cases has reached the stage of investigation.

Formally, the judges’ decision on Monday declared the two lawsuits debatable – apparently due to Trump’s departure from office last week. The higher court also dismissed the decisions that the New York and Virginia federal appellate courts issued saying that the lawsuits could proceed to an investigation.

The Supreme Court did not offer a detailed explanation of its justification. No judge registered any dissent. The lawsuit was announced as part of a list of routine orders that the court issued on Monday morning.

Last October, judges refused to review another lawsuit focused on Trump’s alleged earnings in his presidency. This lawsuit, filed by Democratic senators and members of the House, was rejected by a federal appeals court based on constant arguments.

A portion of the DC and Maryland lawsuit remains pending at the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, but Attorneys General filed a motion on Friday seeking to dismiss the appeal because Trump is no longer in office.
