The pop-off is real in Super Smash Bros.

The champion of Super Smash Bros. Melee Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma is known for his excessive celebration after an especially intense match. Seriously, is there a more memorable Smash moment than EVO 2016, when Hungrybox was in tears on the ground after defeating Adam “Armada” Lindgren?

Well, Hungrybox may have outdone itself this time. Last night, Hungrybox erupted with such force that it passed out for about 10 seconds. It was such a shocking and disturbing moment captured on the webcam that it could become one of the most talked about pop-offs of all time.

Hungrybox shared the moment on Twitter, telling his followers that he was going to the doctor to see if he was okay. Even if the Internet is already having a field day mocking a moment so capable of memes, fainting is no reason to laugh.

Hungrybox explains faint pop-off incident

Hungrybox released a video discussing the worrying incident the following night. He recounted the intense six-hour flow that escalated the grand finals of Eastcoast Fridays, a weekly online melee tournament with some big names.

“I’m sweaty, I’m tired. But I’m also hyper-concentrated. I decided that I want this reward more than anything else in my life at that moment,” recalls Hungrybox. “I started playing one of the best Melee online I’ve ever had.”

Hungrybox admitted that he usually screams out loud when he wins. “This is who I am,” he said, noting that he wears his heart on his sleeve. But the screams always make you a little dizzy.

This time, however, it was a little different. His vision and his head “became clear”. He said there was a cloud over his head and he got very dizzy, similar to an intense seasickness. It was stronger than any other time he jumped, causing him to pass out for the first time.

“It was a bizarre experience,” said Hungrybox.

Hungrybox also added that he is totally fine. It was probably a lack of food and hydration, not a serious health problem. Perhaps it is not the best decision to leave so excitedly after broadcasting for more than eight hours. Still, it’s a relief for your fans.

This is not the first time Hungrybox has encountered a health problem.

Before EVO 2018, Hungrybox announced a serious wrist injury on his Twitter. After coming in second at a location, Hungrybox felt a sharp pain in the wrist that hit his arm.

“First the broken finger, then the food poisoning, then the flu, now whatever it is,” tweeted Hungrybox.

Some of the responses to Hungrybox’s wrist injury are part of the reason why the Smash community has been seen as toxic for so many years. Many people celebrated the health concerns of the Melee God, apparently satisfied because he would not be able to compete to his full potential.

Bullying was too much for Hungrybox at the time. He tweeted that he has been criticized by the community for 12 years. This included being ridiculed by his “colleagues, competitors” and even “prominent figures in the community” every day.

“Like, what’s the point,” Hungrybox wondered at the time.

Although the Smash community recently cleaned up, that hasn’t stopped people from making fun of Hungrybox for its latest health episode. Many people joked that Hungrybox “popped with a rest”, referring to one of his clutch movements with Jigglypuff. Remixes of the video are also starting to appear on Twitter.

Joseph “Mang0” Marquez even replied, “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Even though Hungrybox has welcomed entertainment for the time being, its fans are hoping that everything will be fine in terms of health with top competitor Melee. The Smash community is currently waiting for an update to the Hungrybox doctor visit.
