Super Smash Bros Ultimate announces new fighter coming in March

From 2017 Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Pyra and Mythra will be added as a double character next month. They occupy the fourth of six vacancies in Fighters passes volume 2, and will also be available for purchase separately if you don’t want to purchase the full pass.

Footage from the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast shows Pyra and Mythra alternating at will during the battle, allowing the player to take advantage of their individual qualities.

Pyra is capable of using fire-based moves, such as Flame Nova, Prominence Revolt and Blazing End, while Mythra’s light element attacks include Photon Edge, Ray of Punishment and Foresight.

Pyra and Mythra also have slightly different Final Smashes.

The addition of the pair to the squad will be accompanied by a new stage taking place on the back of the Titan Azurda, as well as a selection of musical tracks from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Pyra and Mythra are not the first characters in the Xenoblade franchise to star Smash Bros, with Xenoblade Chronicles 1Shulk has already appeared in the cast of characters.

Previous characters added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate through the Fighters Pass Volume 2 includes Min Min of Arms, Steve and Alex de Minecraftand Sephiroth’s Final Fantasy VII.

Pyra and Mythra’s Smash inclusion was one of many Switch announcements made during Nintendo Direct. Other highlights include Mario Golf: Super Rush and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – both coming this summer – as well as the revelation of Splatoon 3, which is scheduled for 2022.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
