Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury starts 2021 as the game to win, in terms of sales

Wii U remaster keeps first place for second week

Recent Nintendo Switch Release Super Mario 3D World + Bowser Fury is enjoying a second week at the top of the UK charts, after avoiding a wave of sales of the Electronic Arts football simulator FIFA 21. Although physical sales dropped more than 60% in the first week, the remastered Wii U is now the best-selling new release of 2021 … But we still have one long way to go.

The rest of the Top Ten remains relatively stagnant, consisting mainly of major 2020 launchers. Nintendo continues to dominate with stable physical sales of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Ring Fit Adventure, while Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Take-Two Interactive Grand Theft Auto V are enjoying new sales every week. Bandai Namco’s Little Nightmares II dropped from the Top Ten after just a week, a natural move for a typically niche title.

The first quarter of 2021 is relatively quiet, but this week will see the launch of the long-awaited RPG sequel Bravely Default II, which will be released on Switch February 26. The current climate only reflects the state of so many new generations, where a title launch salvo is immediately followed by a drought. The launch schedule will increase when we leave the first quarter of 2021.
