Apple won the rights to the Sundance drama CODA from screenwriter and director Sian Heder, in a $ 25 million deal, according to sources.

The title, which debuted in the dramatic US competition, follows Ruby (Emilia Jones) as the only deaf person in her family. When the family’s fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between following her love of music and abandoning her family.

Eugenio Derbez, Troy Kotsur, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Daniel Durant and Marlee Matlin also star.

Philippe Rousselet, Fabrice Gianfermi and Patrick Wachsberger produced the film, with Ardavan Safaee and Sarah Borch-Jacobsen as executive producers.

CAA Media Finance and ICM Partners negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
