Summit County reports 4 hospitalizations, 122 cases of COVID-19 during the week

Summit County reported 122 cases of COVID-19 and four hospitalizations among residents during the week, according to the county’s coronavirus page.

The total number of positive cases among residents is now 2,834 and 114 people have been hospitalized with the virus.

Since Colorado switched to Dial 2.0, which analyzes COVID metrics on an average of one week instead of the average of two weeks, the county’s numbers have remained at the orange level or below.

As of Friday, February 12, the county’s one-week incidence rate was 306.6 new cases per 100,000 people, a reduction of 70.4 cases from the previous week. The number is within the orange level on the display. To be within the lower yellow level, it would need to be 300 or less.

The county’s week-long positivity rate – the percentage of positive tests over total tests – was 8.6% on the display, according to the control panel. That number increased by 2.2% from last week and is within the yellow level on the dial.

County hospitalizations remain the most promising data point. According to the panel, the county is reporting 11 days of stable or declining hospitalizations, which is within the yellow level of the dial.

Vaccines

Vaccine providers in Summit County received about 616 vaccines to administer to people aged 65 and over, educators, health professionals and first responders during the week.

At a Health Council meeting on Thursday, February 11, Director of Public Health Amy Wineland said the county had ordered 2,000 vaccines for the next week. However, the county is unlikely to receive so many doses.

School data

The Summit School District reported a quarantine at Breckenridge Elementary during the week. The quarantine, which was issued on Tuesday, February 9, was the result of a student or employee with symptoms of the virus.

After seeing an almost record number of quarantines and cases, things seemed to be under control in the district. This week was the second in a row that the district reported only a quarantine.
