Suffolk unveils plans for mass vaccination site of COVID-19 in Hauppauge

A new mass vaccination site COVID-19 has opened in Suffolk County.

A total of 600 people were vaccinated today at the Dennison Building in Hauppauge. Authorities say there is the potential to vaccinate 900 people a day at the site.

Suffolk County said it is working with organizations and companies to gain better access for those whose jobs put them at greater risk of becoming ill.

Suffolk County executive Steve Bellone says getting doses of the vaccine is still a problem for the county, but they are expecting more in the coming weeks as supplies increase in New York.

The announcement comes at a time when Bellone says the county has reached a plateau in terms of positivity rate, which is hovering around 4%, with hospitalizations around 400.

“What we are doing here is a race against the virus, vaccinating as many people as possible before the virus mutates, as many vaccines as possible so that we can say that the virus is behind us,” says Bellone.
