Baker’s defensive side, LaDareyen Craig, went from a likely commitment to the Group of 5 to a Power 5 signatory in less than two weeks.
The six-foot, six-foot senior signed with South Carolina on Wednesday morning. His latest offerings also included the states of Mississippi and Oregon. He also delayed Auburn’s interest earlier this week. Its first offerings included Southern Miss and Tulane, among other schools.
“I think LaDareyen received some offers from some teams in transition,” said Baker’s defensive coordinator, Jacy Todd. “But honestly, I think that if COVID hadn’t been right, he would have been in the same situation. Not going to camp last summer really hurt him because his measurable values are so good.
Todd said that Craig is “a legitimate 4.3 guy.”
He had seven interceptions and 16 pass separations in 2020 and is set to qualify academically.
“He’s a big competitor,” said Todd. “He is long, he has great ball skills and, man, he can fly.”
