Sub Rosa is out (again?), On Steam Early Access this time

I played Sub Rosa for the first time about nine years ago, but only today did I get to Steam Early Access. The publisher Devolver Digital marked the occasion with a new cinematic trailer that presents the cheats and betrayals of the sniper in first person for several players.

Sub Rosa has been available for purchase elsewhere for a long time, and SteamDB suggests it has been available on Steam since 2014. The game’s Steam page explains that “it has been in early access for years, although hidden from the store and relying on word of mouth. to build a small but motivated fan community around the world. “This release method was referred to in 2017 as” initial access “by ‘word of mouth’, also known as a marketing tweet from your publisher Devolver.

In any case, it is good to see the game opening up to a wider audience. Sub Rosa is a great idea: basically, a multiplayer shooting game designed to dynamically produce Mexican clashes between players. You need to exchange data disks with other teams to get money, but you can get most money if you cheat on them and try to escape a deal made with the money and the disc. The result is a lot of bloodshed, shootings in parking lots, ambushes that went wrong and hostage-taking, all in a big open world that is also full of (see. Simple) NPCs and governed by crazy physics.

Honestly, I never had fun when I tried to play with friends a lifetime ago, but it’s assumed that I’ve come a long way since then. I almost hope Sub Rosa will be a success anyway, because it is an interesting game and an act of dedication in the style of Dwarf Fortress that is still in development all these years later.
