Stripe stops processing payments to the Trump campaign website

Stripe Inc. will no longer process payments from President Trump’s campaign website after last week’s Capitol riot, according to people familiar with the matter.

The financial technology company handles card payments for millions of online businesses and e-commerce platforms, including Mr. Trump’s campaign website and online fundraiser. Stripe is hacking the president’s campaign account for violating his policies against encouraging violence, people said.

Trump campaign spokesmen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Stripe asks users to agree that they will not accept payments for “high risk” activities, including any company or organization that “engages, encourages, promotes or celebrates illegal violence or physical harm to people or property,” according to its website .

The company has already disabled accounts following violent acts. After a sniper killed 11 people in an attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, Stripe hacked Gab.com – the right-wing social media platform where the alleged sniper posted anti-Semitic messages.
