Stripe payment processor bans Trump campaign

After the violent siege of the Capitol on Wednesday, Stripe will no longer process payments for President Trump’s campaign, which has continued to raise funds. The news was first reported by The Wall Street Journal and confirmed by Axios with a source close to Stripe.

Why it matters: This is the latest escalation in Big Tech’s disgusted reaction to last Wednesday’s uprising in DC, and the first to directly direct cash flows.

Driving the news: Several companies said they would stop donating to politicians after Wednesday’s attack. Marriott will stop donating its PAC to “who voted against the election’s certification,” confirmed a company spokesman on Sunday. In the meantime, Citigroup will stop all donations from its PAC for the rest of the quarter, according to a company memo obtained by Axios.
